Carmela B. Lorusso, 98, of East Haven, wife of 59 years to the late Anthony J. Lorusso, passed away at the Whispering Pines Center on November 20, 2025. Born in New Haven on April 25, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Louis and Catherine (LaVorgna) Bimonte. Loving mother of Katherine Shine and her husband Louis Kelley of East Haven, and grandmother of Christopher Shine and Theresa Shine, both of Hamden. She is also survived by her step-great-grandchildren, Winston Kelley and Linden Kelley. Predeceased by her sisters, Grace Calia and Dolores Lorusso, and brother, Myron Bimonte.
Carmela was a resident of Hamden for 53 years before moving to East Haven. She was the Administrative Assistant for the Olin Corporation for 40 years, retiring at age 70. She was an active member of St. Mary’s Church in New Haven, and belonged to the Third Order Society.
Friends and relatives are invited to visit with Carmela’s family on Monday, November 24th from 4:00-7:00 p.m. in Beecher & Bennett Funeral Home, 2300 Whitney Avenue, Hamden. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 25th in Blessed Michael McGivney Parish-St. Mary Church, 5 Hillhouse Avenue, New Haven, followed by interment in All Saints Cemetery. Contributions in Carmela’s memory may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital at www.stjude.org, or the Connecticut Humane Society at www.cthumane.org.
