Cheshire, Connecticut resident Cornelia M. “Connie” Dorsey, wife of the late Judge Peter C. Dorsey, died April 3, 2025 at Connecticut Hospice. She was 92.
Connie was born to Lawrence and Esther McEwen on Sept. 9, 1932, in New London, Connecticut. She had an older sister, Sherry, and has a younger brother, Lawrence Jr.
After graduating from the Harbor School in New London, Connie attended Wellesley College, earning a bachelor’s degree.
Connie and Peter married in 1954 and raised five children: Karen, Peter Jr., Jennifer, Christopher and Christopher Jr.
Connie was a social worker with the Children’s Center in Hamden, Connecticut. She loved scouring New England for antiques and later ran a successful antiques business. For a time, she was active in the Junior League and also volunteered with Creative Arts Workshop in New Haven, Connecticut. When her kids were growing up, she supported them in their activities, including music, sports and Scouting.
Connie and Peter lived in Hamden for several decades before moving to North Haven. They purchased a second home in York Harbor, Maine, and for many years it was a central place for Dorsey gatherings. Connie maintained a beautiful garden there and also enjoyed hosting big family meals. In the winter that meant prime rib (rare) and melt-in-your-mouth popovers. In the summers that meant lobsters and steamers.
At the time of her death, Connie was a resident of Elim Park in Cheshire. She was predeceased by her husband, Peter C. Dorsey. She is survived by children Karen (Jim) Fawcett, Peter (Nancy) Dorsey, Jr., Jennifer Dorsey and Christopher Dorsey; grandson Christopher Dorsey, Jr.; grandson Anson (Katelyn) Dorsey; and great-granddaughter Natalie Cornelia Dorsey.
