Edward W. Newton
Meriden - Edward W. Newton, 87, husband of Mildred M. (Florian) Newton, died Friday, October 13, 2006 at Mid-State Medical Center with his loving family by his side. A lifelong resident of Meriden, he was born September 2, 1919, the son of the late Charles A. and Iva Bowen Newton. During World War II, he served with the U.S. Army in Alaska, where he was a charter member of the First Baptist Church of Anchorage. He graduated from Bryant University and worked for many years as an auditor at Pratt & Whitney. He was a member of the Sons of the American Revolution and the First United Methodist Church of Meriden. In addition to his wife, Mildred, he is survived by his son and daughter, Seth (Sylvia) Newton of Derry, NH and Enid (Richard) Band of Londonderry, NH. He also leaves behind five grandchildren, Bret and Ross Newton of Derry, NH, Clarissa Moll of Glendale Heights, IL, Georgina Henker of Dover, NH and Priscilla Hofmann of Worcester, MA, a great-granddaughter, Fiona Moll of Glendale Heights, IL and a sister, Iva Sleeper of Minneapolis, MN. A graveside service will be held Monday, Oct. 16 at 11 a.m. at Walnut Grove Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Meriden Soup Kitchen, P.O. Box 2138, Meriden, CT 06450. Arrangements are under the direction of BEECHER & BENNETT-FLATOW Funeral Home, 48 Cook Ave., Meriden.
So sorry to hear of Ed’s passing….we use to square dance with both of you many years ago…we use to live on Wall St. in Meriden but moved to Union, Me. about 6 years ago…Ron also worked for Pratt and Whitney In Middletown and use to talk to Ed about that….we always enjoyed dancing with the both of you and will always remember you guys…also, my niece Jane Busa FitzGerald went to school and was friends with your daughter, Enid. We will always remember Edward’s sense of humor. We are glad that Seth was able to share our A.T. hiking with Edward via cell phone on Saturday the 7th. You are in our thoughts and prayers.
