Obituary

Meriden - Elaine Porter Ives, 79, of 105 Dryden Drive, died Wednesday, Sept. 20, 2000 at MidState Medical Center after a brief illness. She was the wife of the late Harold E. Ives of Ives Orchard, Wallingford, CT, where she had lived until moving to Meriden after his death. She was born in Meriden on Nov. 3, 1920, a daughter of the late Grosvenor W. and Jeanie Hart Porter. She was a graduate of Meriden High School, Class of 1938 and Larson College, a division of Quinnipiac College. She was an active member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, served as treasurer of Susan Carrington Clarke Chapter and was Chapter Regent for three terms. Mrs. Ives was a lifelong member of Center Congregational Church, where she was church clerk, served a 6-year term as deaconess, was a member of the bell choir for over 25 years, the Tri-C Club and at the time of her death was a member of the Koinonia Women's Group. She is survived by a daughter, Jeanie F. Ives of Middletown; a stepson and his wife, Gordon H. and Jean Ives of Meriden; four step grandchildren,Debra McMaster of Abilene, TX, Sandra Howard of Naugatuck, Gordon C. ''Butch'' Ives of Middletown and Sue Suravich of Killingworth; and twelve step great-grandchildren. The funeral will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Center Congregational Church. The Rev. George H. True will officiate. Burial will be in Walnut Grove Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call Friday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Beecher and Bennett Flatow Funeral Home, 48 Cook Ave., Meriden.
