Ernest Edgar Clark

MERIDEN - Ernest Edgar Clark, Sr., 92, died Friday, Sept. 14, 2001, at Connecticut Hospice in Branford. He was the husband for 68 years of Edna Bauchman Clark. Born in Haddam, CT on Jan. 31, 1909, he was the son of the late Edgar Ezekial and Emma Firl Clark. He was employed for forty-five years as a customer service representative with Connecticut Light and Power Company, and had served with the Merchant Marines. He was a member and deacon of the First Congregational Church, Meridian Lodge #77 AF & AM, the Elks Lodge and the Polish Legion of American Veterans. In his younger days he was a star basketball player and enjoyed golf. Besides his wife, he is survived by two daughters and their husbands, Elizabeth C. and Robert Benton of Olympia, WA and Evelyn C. and Joseph Smigel of Cromwell, CT; a son and his wife, Ernest E. and Gail Clark, Jr. of Anderson, SC; eight grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and a niece, Sally Page. He was predeceased by a sister, Evelyn Brainard; a grandson, William Smigel and a step-granddaughter, Barbara Benton. A graveside service will be held Thursday, Sept. 20 at 2;00pm. in Gethsemane Cemetery, Meriden Rev. Kenneth Frazier will officiate. Arrangements are with BEECHER & BENNETT-FLATOW Funeral Home, 48 Cook Ave. Meriden.
