Fred Ellsworth Cram
Fred Ellsworth Cram, 77, husband of the late Alice Ball Cram, of South Brooksvale Rd., Cheshire, passed away March 24, 2005 in CT Hospice, Branford. He was born in Boston, MA, March 28, 1927 the only child of the late John F. and Elizabeth G. Miller Cram and graduated from Melrose HS. After graduation he served in the US Army during WW II in Germany, as a radio operator.Mr. Cram received a Bachelor's degree from Brown University and a Master's degree in social work from the University of Connecticut. He enjoyed his career as a social worker for more than 44 years including lenghy employment at both the Family & Children's Services of New London and the V. A. Medical Center of West Haven then continuing on a volunteer basis after his retirement in 1996. He was a avid bridge player and was member of several bridge clubs including the Hartford Bridge Club, New Britain/Meriden Bridge Club and the American Contract Bridge Club. He is survived by 2 daughters; Donna Cram Magee and her husband, Larry Magee of Waterford, CT, Susan Cram Knowles and her husband, Harry Knowles, Jr. of Waterford, CT, a stepson, Gregory Wiltshire and his wife, Joesephine Carroll of Wallingford, CT, 3 grandchildren, Leon A. Magee of Waterford, Bonnie L. Magee of East Hartford, Jessica M. Knowles of New London and a step-granddaughter, Allyson Carroll of Wallingford. Friends may call Wed., March 30 from 5-8 p.m. at BEECHER & BENNETT, 2300 Whitney Ave., Hamden. A Memorial service will follow at 8:00 p.m. Interment in Beaverdale Memorial Park will be private. In lieu of flowers contributions in his memory may be sent to CT Hospice, 100 Double Beach Rd., Branford, CT 06405.
I remember Fred when I was a teenager and he helped me with my algebra in freshman year of highschool. He did indeed love to play bridge, and he and my mother went to many bridge tournaments.
