Harold G. Michel, 85, of Cheshire, passed away on February 19, 2012 at Elim Park Place. He was the devoted husband for 40 years to his wife Shirley Dahlgard Michel. Born in West Haven on September 29, 1926 to the late Joseph G. and Dorothy Petersen Michel. Besides his wife, Harold leaves his daughters, Kathleen Michel of Saxtons River, VT, Marilyn Earle of Bluffton, SC, and Nancy Gill & her husband William of West Haven; sons, Stephen Michel & his wife Kathryn of West Haven, Robert McSherry & his wife Sandra of Bethany, and Brian Michel & his wife Susan of Middletown; grandchildren, John Blick, Joseph, Matthew, Lindsay, Eric, Christopher, & Carly Michel, Stacia Piskura, Kevin & Jason Earle, and Kate, Alex, & Michael McSherry; great granddaughter, Anna Piskura; brother, Raymond Michel of Orlando, FL; sister, Dorothy Merriam of Waretown, NJ; several nieces & nephews. He was predeceased by a son-in-law, Robert (Mac) McIntyre. Harold grew up in West Haven and was a graduate of West Haven High School class of '44. Most recently he lived at Elim Park Place in Cheshire and for 40 years prior, in Bethany. After school he went into his families plumbing, heating, and cooling contracting business that is still around today, Joseph G. Michel & Sons. He worked there for 40 years before becoming the CEO of Michel and Company for 20 years until his retirement. Harold was a member of the West Haven Chamber of Commerce, Bethany Lions Club, The Farms CC in Wallingford, the CC of Naples, FL, the PHCC Association of CT, the National Association of PHCC, the Bethany Congregational Church, and former member of the First Congregational Church of West Haven. He greatly enjoyed time spent over the last 25 years at his condo in Naples, FL. He had an amazing voice and was the soloist at the WH Congregational Church and sang at many other functions. Golf and Tennis were amongst his favorite sports to partake in but he also enjoyed watching his beloved Giants and Yankees. A Memorial Service Celebrating Harold's Life will take place on Saturday, February 25th at 2:00 p.m. in Nelson Hall at Elim Park Place, 150 Cook Hill Rd, Cheshire. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to the Bethany Congregational Church, 511 Amity Rd, Bethany, CT 06524 or the Elim Park Resident Benevolent Fund, 150 Cook Hill Rd, Cheshire, CT 06410. BEECHER & BENNETT, 2300 Whitney Ave., are in care of arrangements.
