Herbert G. Beck, long time resident of Hamden, loving husband of 62 years to the late Margaret Finnigan Beck, passed away on October 8, 2008 at CT Hospice. He was born in New Haven on January 2, 1919 to the late Charles and Elizabeth Schmidt Beck. Herbert was the father of Carl and James (Tim) Beck of Hamden. He is also survived by nieces Nancy Matthies and Fanny Lou Forsberg and nephew Ira Hubbell. Pre- deceased by siblings Carl Beck, Theodore Beck, Katherine Hubbell, and Dorothy Johnson- MacKenna. Herbert is a Navy Veteran who proudly served during WW II. He worked for American Steel and Wire Company, New Haven Works, A.C. Gilbert Company, Burndy Cooperation, and Hyperprecision Company. Herbert was also one of the founders of Shoreline Association of Mentally Retarded Children of Guilford. Funeral service at BEECHER & BENNETT, 2300 Whitney Ave., Hamden, Saturday, Oct. 11th at 10:00 a.m. Interment to follow at Centerville Cemetery with Military Honors. Memorial contributions in Herbert's name may be sent to CT Hospice, 100 Double Beach Rd., Branford, CT 06405 OR to The Salvation Army National Headquarters, P.O. Box 269, Alexandria, VA 22313.
