James M. Murphy, Jr., 83, husband of the late Emilie Muciek Murphy, passed away Mon., Oct. 6, 2003 in Evergreen Woods Health Center, North Branford. He was born in New Haven, Sept. 5, 1920 a son of the late James M. and Mary Kilcran Murphy and lived at Charlton Hill of Hamden for many years. Mr. Murphy was a sergeant in the U.S. Army Air Corps having served during WW II in the Asiatic & Pacific Theatre. He was a graduate of the Junior College of Commerce and worked for many years in the insurance industry in the New Haven area. He most recently worked at the Follis, Wylie & Lane Insurance Co. of Hamden. He is survived by a son James M. Murphy III, and his wife, Maureen Murphy of Cheshire, a daughter, Geraldine M. Monast, and her husband Gerard Monast of Guilford, three granddaughters, Amy & Erin Preston, Laura Celia and her husband, Gerard Celia. A sister, Rita Murphy predeceased him. Funeral from BEECHER & BENNETT, 2300 Whitney Ave., Hamden, Thurs., Oct. 9 at 9:30 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 10 a.m. Friends may call Wednesday (TODAY) from 5 - 7 p.m. Interment with Military Honors in St. Mary's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be sent to the American Heart Assoc., 5 Brookside Dr., Wallingford, CT 06492.

I only became aware when he received a copy of your Dad\’s obituary in the mail from a friend in New Haven. Since your conversation with him he\’s been reminicing about Lake Bomoseen with the Murphy\’s, Mulligan\’s and the Flaherty\’s. Our prayers and thoughts are with you both.
