John H. Schatzlein, 89, of Ashlar Village, Wallingford, husband of the late Beverly Divan Schatzlein passed away March 3, 2024 after a brief illness. Loving father of Jan Taschner of Guilford and Eric Schatzlein of Gardner, MA. Grandfather of Samantha Taschner of Cromwell and Stefani Taschner of Shirley, NY. He was predeceased by his brother George Schatzlein. John served in the US Navy from 1955-1957 as a Postmaster on a destroyer. He earned his Teaching Degree from Central CT State College in 1967 and taught Industrial Arts in North Haven High School for 30 years before retiring in 1995. He was an active member and Past Master of Hiram Lodge #1 A.F. & A. M. and enjoyed preserving its history. John also was a member of Gideons International and his Bible distribution included hospitals, hotels, college campuses. As a resident of Ashlar Village, he enjoyed the community puzzle tables.
Friends are invited to visit with his family at BEECHER & BENNETT, 2300 Whitney Ave., Hamden on Thursday, March 7th from 5-7 p.m. with a Masonic Service at 6 p.m., and are also invited to attend a graveside service on Friday at 10 a.m. at Beaverdale Memorial Park, Hamden, Section E. Memorial contributions may be sent to the Masonic Charity Foundation, P.O. Box 70, Wallingford, CT 06492.
