John Vincent Nerkowski, Sr.

In Branford, June 24, 2001, John Vincent Nerkowski, Sr. 83, beloved husband of 59 years to Rose I. Sedon Nerkowski of 125 Putnam Ave., Hamden. Father of John V. Nerkowski, Jr. and his wife Eileen of East Haven and Robert E. Nerkowski and his wife Diane of Hamden, brother of Stanley Nerkowski of Milford, Thomas Nerkowski of Branford, Anthony Nerkowski of West Haven, Frank Nerkowski of East Haven and the late Joseph Nerkowski, beloved grandfather of John V. Nerkowski, III of Wallingford, Stephen Nerkowski of East Haven, Robert E. Nerkowski, Jr. of Hamden, Matthew Nerkowski of East Haven and Rebecca Farrow of Orlando, FL. Also survived by 5 great-grandchildren. He was born in New Haven, Jan. 4, 1918 a son of the late Ignatius and Anna Korocz Nerkowski. A veteran of WW II, he served as a Corporal in the US Marines in the Asiatic Pacific Theater and was in the invasion of Okinawa. He was an Electronic Assembler for the M & B Manufacturing Co. and retired in 1982 from Yale University in the dining room. He was a communicant of St. John the Baptist Church for over 50 years and was a member of American Legion Post # 89 of East Haven. Funeral from BEECHER & BENNETT, 2300 Whitney Ave., Hamden, Friday, June 29 at 9:15 AM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. John the Baptist Church, 782 Dixwell Ave., New Haven at 10 o'clock. Friends may call on Thurs. from 5 to 8 PM.
