Born in:
Windsor, Ontario, Canada
Resided in:
Hamden, Connecticut
Joseph “Phil” Laframboise, 89, died on October 9, 2024 in Hamden CT. Joining his wife Lorraine in heaven, he will be missed dearly by his daughter Denise Laframboise; son-in-law Brent Moore; grandchildren, Nicollet Laframboise and Owen Moore; and special friend Anne Ramsey.
Joseph was born in Windsor, Ontario, Canada to the late Adolphe and Denise (née Paré) Laframboise on November 5, 1934. The youngest of 13, he grew up in Windsor, and attended a year of business school there after high school. He worked for years as an office manager, mostly in insurance.
Phil met the love of his life, Lorraine Godin, at a church dance. They were married in 1960 in Windsor. His job transferred the young couple to San Francisco, where they adopted Denise in 1966. Shortly afterwards they moved to Hartford, CT, then to Indianapolis, as Phil’s job transferred him every year or two. They settled in Plattsburgh, NY in 1969, where they lived for 37 years. Tired of office work and finding that it didn’t fit his personality, he and Lorraine bought and operated a small motel for 9 years in Plattsburgh, and he also began to work in retail, first at Grand Way department store, then K-Mart. In retirement, Phil and Lorraine moved to Southington, CT in 2006, then to Hamden in 2020 to be closer to their daughter and grandchildren.
Joseph was kind, sweet-tempered and easy going, rarely complaining about anything. Though he claimed that he was shy when he was younger, we knew him to be friendly and outgoing, striking up conversations with strangers wherever he went. He was also fun-loving and playful, especially enjoying card games and cribbage. And he had a great sense of humor; he was cracking jokes and getting laughs from nurses and caretakers, even to the end when he was in pain or distress.
Joseph was a faithful Catholic all his life and followed the practice for many years of reading an hour of prayers each evening. He was conscientious to a fault, and a devoted and patient caretaker of his wife, whom he nursed through years of illness and her struggle with cancer. Sadly, his last two years were marked by his own struggle with Lewy Body Dementia, which took his active and intelligent mind too soon.
Family and friends are invited to a Memorial Mass on Friday, October 18th, at 10:00 a.m. in St. Paul VI Parish-Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 2819 Whitney Ave., Hamden, followed by his burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery. We were almost the same age. I am Ken Laframboise, formerly of Windsor Ont
Moving to Sarnia where I met my wife, Judy, in 1960. In 2002 to be close to our daughter, Joan we moved to London. Our son, Bob lives in Windsor. My Dad Leo was Philips oldest brother. Phillip spent a lot of time at our home as a youngster. Today is March 29 2025. We were searching for Philip and found both him and Lorraine. I am now 87. Just want to wish his family all the best.
