Katherine Marie (Moro) Dumont, 66, of Portland, CT, loving wife of Chester “Chet” Dumont, went home to Jesus on March 12, 2024 at Middlesex Hospital in Middletown, CT. She was born in Presque Isle, ME on September 11, 1957, a daughter of the late Lewis and Ruth (Caron) Moro, Sr. Besides her husband Chet, she is survived by her loving children, Rea Guckin and Michael Reilly and his wife Caitlin, her brothers, Lawrence Moro and his wife Elisabeth, Arnold Moro, Maurice Moro and his wife Deborah, and Lewis Moro, Jr. and his wife Jean, her grandchildren, Oly Elderkin, Haleigh Brooks, Molly, Patrick, Grace, and Makayla Reilly, great-granddaughters Harper and Embry Dennison, godson Albert S. Lavigne, and several nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends.

Katherine, known by many as “Kat” or “Kathy,” was raised in Meriden, CT. She attended and graduated from Meriden schools. As a student at Orville H. Platt High School, she was a majorette, twirling the baton with ease and grace. She spent her summers as a camp counselor at John J. Nerden Regional Training Center Summer Camp in Middletown, CT. As an adult, she worked at Airpax Corporation as a solderer, moving on to become an independent businesswoman cleaning homes. She worked at Baptist Homes in the laundry and the kitchen. During this time, Katherine met the love of her life, whom she loved with every fiber of her being and called “her C.A.” They created a beautiful life in their heartfelt marriage of nearly 35 years. They adored each other for 40 years, and their love will continue for eternity.

In the following years, Katherine worked at Double A Transportation as a driver and trainer. Katherine also worked for Finest Supermarkets in the deli department at the same time as becoming a Certified Nursing Assistant, choosing to change careers and continue to work at Masonic Home & Hospital for many years. She was a caring and compassionate CNA and enjoyed helping and caring for her patients and their families, some even becoming friends. She greeted many with hospitality and warmth, extending a helping hand to anyone in need. In her “spare” time, she took care of homecare patients as well.

She spent her life as an avid volunteer no matter how busy her work and family life was. She was a Girl Scout leader in Meriden for some time when her daughter was young, and then again in Wallingford alongside her daughter for her granddaughter’s troop. She volunteered countless hours at Meriden’s Salvation Army Soup Kitchen for many years. At New Life Church in Meriden and then Wallingford, she volunteered with children’s ministries, bible studies and various church events.

With retirement came her greatest joy of spending time with family, especially her grandchildren. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were loved intensely by her and lovingly called her “Nana.” Nana even created Facebook and Snapchat accounts so she could communicate via video chats and snap pics with her grandchildren. She attended many school events including concerts, dances, award ceremonies and graduations, and a multitude of sports events such as dance recitals and competitions, baseball, basketball, volleyball, softball and soccer games and track meets, supporting all of them every second she could.
Traveling with her grandchildren was a favorite pastime, and she enjoyed every opportunity to do so. Spending her evenings with her husband talking and laughing about their days and shows was a heartwarming, peaceful moment she looked forward to every day.

Katherine was a beloved Wife, Mom, and Nana who created lifelong friendships and bonus family bonds through every job and volunteer project. She lives on in the hearts and minds of so many who have touched this Earth and beyond to an everlasting peace in her new home.
