Lillian M. Donahue Lekas, age 89, of Hamden, passed away peacefully on November 20, 2013 following a long illness. Born in New Haven on May 3, 1924 a daughter of the late John and Margaret Hyland Donahue. She was the widow of Valantas M. Lekas. Lillian is survived by her four daughters, Valerie Lekas of Hamden, Patricia Hinchliff and husband, Peter, of Hamden, Margaret Schoen and fiance, Ken Huminski, of Madison and Eileen Loewenbaum and husband, Fred, of Branford; seven grandchildren, Allison Rosenberg (Gabe), Katherine Schoen, Scott Hinchliff, Adam Loewenbaum, Stephanie Barrett (Michael),Colleen Gala (Amar) and Megan Porto (George); six adored great- grandchildren, Lily, William, Thomas, Juliana, Aria and Mitchell; her loving sister, Laurie Robinson of Hamden and several nieces and a nephew. She was predeceased by her brother, Edward Donahue. Lillian was devoted to her family and cherished every member. Lillian worked 24 years for the Hamden Public Schools, she retired in 1986. Friends may visit with her family on Monday, November 25th, at BEECHER & BENNETT FUNERAL HOME, 2300 Whitney Ave., Hamden from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Stephen's Church at 11:00 a.m. Internment will be in Montowese Cemetery in North Haven. Donations in Lillian's memory may be made to the charity of one's choice.
