loretta 'lori' hekeler
Loretta 'Lori' Hobbes Hekeler was raised into the loving arms of our heavenly father on Sunday, May 24, 2015 after living with Alzheimer's for many years. She was predeceased by her husband Philip Karl Hekeler, Jr. and her parents Oscar and Roberta (Monis) Hobbes. Lori will be remembered by her sons, Keith and wife Barbara Hekeler of Cheshire and Kurt and wife Lisa Hekeler of Waterbury, VT; daughter, M'Liss D'Angelo of Cheshire; grandchildren, Bryan D'Angelo, Philip, Madeline Jane, Samantha Ann, and Kyle Marie Hekeler. Lori was born on August 15, 1936 in Newport, RI where she also graduated from Rogers High School before attending hairdressing school. After getting married she moved to Cheshire in 1960 where she built a home and raised her family. Lori lived her life with a deep love and compassion for others having given generously to her family and friends throughout her life. Her dinner table was always open to those living solitude or away from family, and there was never a Sunday dinner or holiday that someone did not enter her home as a stranger and leave as a friend. Lori was a devoted daughter and was best friends with her mother with whom she enjoyed traveling on their many weekend and extended vacations together. She was a tour guide and agent for AAA for over twenty years where she developed her love for traveling. She was a Girl Scout leader for many years; enjoyed camping with family; was an avid baker and loved to cook; loved to dance to the old standards and swing music; cruising in her open convertible; visiting family and friends in Newport, RI; and she enjoyed knitting and crocheting. Lori shared a love of bulldogs with her parents, and loved all kinds of animals. Lori was a loving mother and devoted grandmother, affectionately known as Grammy, and cherished her time with her grandchildren. Lori will be deeply missed by all. Friends may visit with her family on Friday, May 29th from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. at BEECHER & BENNETT, 2300 Whitney Ave, Hamden, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 a.m. in St. Bridget's Church, Cheshire.
