Lucille Francis McSherry, 85, of Hamden, wife of the late Thomas McSherry, Sr. passed away on April 8, 2009. She was born in New Haven on March 5, 1924 to the late Frances and Muriel Murphy Doherty.She leaves her daughters, Geri McSherry of Northford, Eileen Davis and her husband Richard of Madison, Maureen Ellis and her husband Robert of Simsbury, and her son Joe McSherry of Hamden. Grandchildren, Michael, Kathy, Chris, Ryan, Kelsey, Dennis, Alyssa, and Ashley. Siblings, Rita Sullivan, and Patricia MacGregor both of Hamden and Jerry Doherty of Wallingford. Besides her husband and parents, she was predeceased by two children, Kathleen McSherry and Thomas McSherry, Jr. and siblings, Audrey Burke and James Doherty.A life long resident of Hamden, Lucille raised her six children before working in the cafeteria at Hamden High School for 20 years. When she wasn't sitting in the sun soaking up the warm rays, she was spending quality time with her grandchildren. They were her pride and joy and she loved going to their various sporting events. Funeral from BEECHER & BENNETT, 2300 Whitney Ave, Hamden, Tuesday, April 14, 2009 at 9:15 AM, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 AM in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church. Friends may visit with the family at the funeral home on Monday evening from 5 - 7 p.m. Memorial contributions in Lucille's memory may be sent to the American Kidney Fund, 6110 Executive Blvd., Suite 1010, Rockville, MD 20852.

  1. Wonderful Aunt and Godmother, So many great memories over the years. I will miss all our long talks, she would fill me in on all her children and grandchildren,you were her heart.

  2. We have been friends and co-workers for a very long time – I will miss her gentle ways, long conversations, and our silly times.She loved to go out and have lunch and we had fun!   4. My condoences to the McSherry family. I worked with Lucille at Hamden High School. We had a lot of fun and a lot of great conversations about life in general. Lucille was a wonderful lady and will be missed by her friends.

To The McSherry’s, Geri, I can still see your mom sitting on the lawn chair by the front door, I still remember your dad driving us to school in the VW bug, I still remember Joe with his dutchboy haircut at age 6 and Tommy driving his motorcycle up the street wearing his leather jacket with .Thailand. embroidered on the back…so many years have passed. I am truly sorry I missed your mom’s wake. She is happy in heaven with your siblings and your dad and you now have another angel to look over all of you. I suppose there may be a Colony St in the next life and if so we’ll meet there again. My mom Fran and I give you all our sympathies in connection with the passing of this wonderful person.   6. McSherry family, worked with lucille at hamden high school many yrs ago. always enjoyed lucilles great sense of humor, lots of fun!i thought about her often and would meet ocasionaly around town. very sorry for your loss.
