TAMPA, FL - Maria Julia Ortiz Hernandez, 80, died Wednesday, Jan. 24, 2007, in Tampa, FL as a result of an automobile accident. She was the wife of Jesus M. Hernandez of Tampa. Born in Aibonito, Puerto Rico on Jan. 24, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Florencio and Emerita Luna Ortiz. She was employed as a nanny. Besides her husband, she is survived by seven daughters, Sandra Lopez of Meriden, Nivia Pantoja, Alicia Thomas, both of Puerto Rico, Mildred Hernandez of Meriden, Marilyn Strong and her husband, Alfred of New Britain, Evelyn Gonzalez and her husband, Al, of Middletown and Helen Muniz and her husband, William of Meriden; two sons, Luis Hernandez and Jerry Hernandez, both of Tampa; two sisters, Mercedes Rivera of Puerto Rico and Amelia Diaz of Meriden; three brothers, Manuel Ortiz of Puerto Rico, Angel Luis Ortiz of Florida and Martin Ortiz of Manchester, seventeen grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a son, Norbert Hernandez; two sisters, Haydee Crespo and Margarita Perez; and two brothers, Juan Mana Ortiz and Reinaldo Ortiz. The funeral will be held Monday, Jan. 29, at 10 a.m. at the Beecher and Bennett Flatow Funeral Home, 48 Cook Ave., Meriden. Burial will be in Walnut Grove Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call Sunday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
