Martin ' Swabbie' M. Shurgalla
In the VA Hospital, West Haven, March 23, 2004, Martin ''Swabbie'' M. Shurgalla, 80, of Merwin Ave., Milford, husband of the late May Hoffman Shurgalla, father of Martina ''Tina'' McDonald and Ann Becroft both of Milford, brother of Elizabeth Yoggodinskie of Marion Heights, PA, Madeline Carnuccio of Shamokin, PA and George Shurgalla of Coal Township, PA, grandfather of Bree McDonald of Milford and step-grandfather of Brian McDonald of Hamden. He was predeceased by a sisters, Mary Poddinskie and Agnes Whary and brothers, Joseph, John and Edward Shurgalla. Swabbie was born in Shamokin, PA, Oct. 31, 1923 a son of the late Michael and Anna Stania Shurgalla. During WW II he served as a pilot in the Navy Air Corp. He was the lead man in the sheet metal dept. of AVCO in Stratford for 38 years and retired in 1987. Swabbie was a member of Grace N Vessels of Christ in Danbury, he was a volunteer fireman for Co. 3 in Milford, a longtime member of the AVCO Flying Club and a member of the Long Beach Roller Skating Club. Funeral service Sat., March 27, 2004 at 9:30 a.m. at BEECHER & BENNETT TAYLOR FUNERAL HOME, 410 Campbell Ave., West Haven. Friends may call Friday from 4 - 8 p.m. Burial with military honors at Kings Highway Cemetery, Milford.
