Born in:
Bronx, NY
Resided in:
Meriden, CT
Mary Agatha Hudson of Meriden, CT, age 90, passed away on May 5, 2023 surrounded by the love of her family at Connecticut Hospice of Branford.
Mary was born on August 27, 1932 in Bronx, New York to the late John and Mae Conte. Mary spent her earlier life enjoying the New York life living close to her cousins in the Bronx, spending time in her father’s grocery store and enjoying the close-knit Italian family that she was surrounded by.
Mary attended high school in the Bronx and Fordham University. Mary was a very intelligent woman who worked proudly as a bookkeeper in a supervisory position, on the board of Missions for the Missionaries at the New York Presbyterian Hospital.
In 1958, she met the love of her life and soul mate, Paul, who was in the army. Through army letters that were sent back and forth, they developed a relationship that soon turned into love and then marriage.
Mary is pre-deceased by her treasured husband Paul, whom she married in 1960. She was predeceased by her parents, John and Mae Conte. Mary is survived by her three children and their spouses; Paula (John) Reardon of Saratoga Springs, NY; John (Susan) Hudson of Prospect; and Carolann Hudson of Meriden; grandchildren, John Reardon IV and Aubrey Reardon, Brianna (Hudson) and Casey Krutz, Nicholas Hudson, William, Andrew, and Zachary Watson. Mary is further survived by her loving cousin Ramona Scotto, and many nieces and nephews from both the Conte and Scotto family.
Mary was happy to make her children and grandchildren the center of her universe. She lived her entire life serving her family. You could see by the stars in her eyes that was what mattered most to her. She loved traveling to visit family members and to be a support to her children and grandchildren. Cooking and meals were always at the heart of each day. This was the way Mary showed her love. Daily phone calls always included family stories of growing up in the Bronx, being teased by her cousins, and the traditions and love of a big Italian family. Those traditions were deeply embedded into all of our lives. Traveling, family, music, and food became the highlights and adventures of Mary and Paul through many years spending treasured evenings attending concerts at the Oakdale Theatre seeing their favorite musical artists.
Mary always made it a point to make “home-made” cards for everyone she knew, never forgetting a birthday, anniversary, or special event. She always brought much happiness into everyone’s life through love, care, kindness, and patience. Her smile would light up a room. She always put others before herself consistently asking how others were doing, even as her health was declining.
Mary had a deep and abiding faith, and was a longtime member of the Montowese Baptist Church. Her faith was a central part of her life. She loved to dress up, making sure she looked fashionable (especially when going to church) being called “glamour girl” by Pastor J.P. Morgan.
Mary was extremely intelligent, skipping two grades before completing high school. It was very difficult to put anything past her. She was sharp as a tack even until the final days of her life. During the later years of Mary’s life, she enjoyed her friends at her assisted living home, playing BINGO and being the social butterfly making it a point to know everyone.
Persistence, strength, beauty, and grace each reflect the core of Mary. She came into this world as a fighter, succeeding in career, marriage, raising a family, and living a very full life. Her strength and fortitude emitted through the final moments of her life. There is so much to say about Mary that will be shared by her children and grandchildren at her service.

So sorry to see that your Mom passed. I have very fond memories of your parents from my childhood. Your parents and family were always such nice people. Paula, I would have loved to have seen you, but we were out of the country and just arrived yesterday evening. You were so special to me growing up. It’s so difficult to lose a parent. I will truly miss my dear neighbor Mary. She always called out for me to come visit her as I strolled by walking my St Bernards. When I finally decided to visit with her and Tom they opened their home and hearts immediately, a true friendship was born. Her teapot collection made mine look unfinished; how we talked teapots lol, oh my. To know Mary was like having a little peace of heaven on earth. Rest in Peace dear lady, you’re one with Tom again
