Mary Paula Bauer, of Cheshire and previously North Haven, passed away peacefully on January 31, 2023. Paula was born in Norwich, CT, daughter of the late John B. Marshall and Catherine Burke Marshall. In addition to her parents, Paula was predeceased by her brothers, John, Frank, Benedict, Reverend David, and Donald Marshall, and one sister, Catherine D’Agostini. She is survived by a brother, Dr. Mark Marshall (Elinor).
Paula was the beloved widow of Stewart R. Bauer. She is cherished and survived by her daughters, Janis Castiglione (Dr. Frank, Jr.), Kristen Bauer, and Alesia Bauer, and her son, Gregory Bauer (Karen), her grandchildren, Frank III (Kaitlin), Dr. Andrew (Dr. Elizabeth), Faith, Brandon (Logan), Darius, Marshall, Adam, and Austin, and her great- grandchildren, Frank IV, Grace, and Luca.
Paula was a graduate of Norwich Free Academy and Saint Raphael’s School of Nursing. She was a registered nurse for many years at the Hospital of Saint Raphael’s and was involved with direct patient care and discharge planning.
In a full and varied life, Paula was an amazing mother, wife, friend, and professional. Above all, Paula loved being a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was the center of our family with her gentle heart and beautiful smile. Paula will be remembered for her humor, intellect, elegance, and beauty. She was meticulous in detail and steadfast in character. She took a great interest in people and had a special gift of making everyone she met feel welcome. She leaves a legacy of love and respect for her family and friends. She will be missed by all who knew her.
There will be visiting hours at Beecher and Bennett Funeral Home, 2300 Whitney Avenue, Hamden from 8:30-9:30 a.m. Saturday, February 4th. A Mass of Christian Burial celebrating her life will follow at 10 a.m. at Divine Marcy Parish-St. Rita’s Church, 1620 Whitney Avenue, Hamden. Interment will be at All Saints Cemetery in North Haven. The family wishes to thank the staff at Elim Park, The Home Aides caregivers, Hospice, and Midstate Hospital for their kind and compassionate care. Contributions on Paula’s behalf may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
