Melvin Tyler, Jr, age 87, of Hamden, passed away on March 7, 2015. Melvin was born in Tahlequah, Oklahoma on August 5, 1927, the son of the late Melvin Issac Tyler and Beatrice Miller Tyler. He is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years, Loretta Comfort Tyler; his children, Joseph (Julia) Tyler, Dorri (John) Eilbeck, Dawn Yates, Duane (Karen) Tyler, Judy Taylor, Michael (Patti) Tyler & Jennifer (Paul) Ruggiero; his grandchildren, Tara Stoker, Joseph Tyler, Denise Medeiros, Michael Eilbeck, Kelsey Tyler, Amber Tyler, Ryan Yates, Coty Taylor, Sara Greenwell, Lindsay Tyler, Emily Tyler, Michael Tyler & Jessica Ruggiero and his great grandchildren, Marc, Alyssa, TJ, Michael, John, Faith, Kaileigh, Breeanna, Caitlin, Zoey, Maddox & Micah. He was predeceased by his sister Wanda Humphries. Melvin was a WWII US Air Force Veteran. He was employed in various positions for over 40 years by the New Haven Register Newspaper and retired as an Advertising Salesman. Melvin enjoyed his hobbies that included photography and gardening and he was a huge UCONN Huskies fan. Friends may visit with his family at Beecher & Bennett Funeral Home on Thursday March 12th, from 5:00 to 8:00 PM. His burial with Military Honors will be private with his family. Contributions in his memory may be made to Connecticut Hospice, 100 Double Beach Rd., Branford, CT 06405.

  1. I’ll never forget the lesson he gave mike and me when we turned 18 and were heading to New Haven for the night. He showed us that photo album of the DUI accidents and it scared me straight. Ive passed that story on to my two sons. He was a loving father. We’re so sorry for the pain and loss you must be feeling. Your family are in our prayers.
