Minnie L. Downs

Minnie L. Downs, 91, wife of the late Warren H. Downs of Woodruff St Hamden, formerlv of Bethany, passed away January 18, 2003 in CT Hospice Branford. She was born March 14, 1911 a daughter of the late Elford H. and Nellie Downs Lounsbury and had lived in Bethany most of her life before moving to Hamden in 1993. Mrs. Downs was employed at the Yale CO-OP prior to her retirement. She was a lifelong member of the Christ Episcopal Church of Bethany, where she was the former Parish Clerk, Sunday School Teacher, and a member of the Episcopal Church Women. Mrs. Downs was a Past President & Secretary of the Bethany Senior Citizens, a member of the Bethany Homemakers Group, the National Grange, the CT Grange and the Bethany Bowling Assoc. She is survived by two sons; Warren H. Downs, Jr. of Oceanside, CA, John E. Downs of North Haven, two sisters; Dorothy Hackett of West Haven, Hazel Hoppe of Milford, two grandchildren; Kristen Bruno of Wallingford, Andrew Downs of Cape Elizabeth, ME, three step grandchildren; Robert Luera of Oceanside, CA., Nicky & David Luera both of Texas, and one great-grandchild, Anthony W. Bruno. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by two sisters Helen Cooper and Florence ''Peggy'' Johnson. Funeral service will be held Tuesday January 21, at 2PM at BEECHER & BENNETT, 2300 Whitney Ave., Hamden. Friends may call Monday from 5-8 p.m. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
