Philip E. 'Phipps' Moriarty, II
Philip E. 'Phipps' Moriarty II, 49, of Northeast Harbor, Maine died peacefully following a long illness on January 23, 2017 in New Haven, Connecticut. Phipps was born in New Haven and grew up in Hinsdale, Illinois. He graduated from St. Paul's School in Concord, NH, Yale University, and Northwestern University's Kellogg School of Management. During his 25 year career in financial services he held management positions at Nuveen Investments, J.P. Morgan, UBS, and Calamos Investments. Phipps was an avid golfer and outdoorsman who loved hunting, fishing, skeet, hiking and boating. He loved music, especially The Grateful Dead, and enjoyed playing guitar with family and friends. Phipps was a generous alumnus to his schools, past President of the Yale Club of Chicago, and elected a Sterling Fellow by Yale. He was an active supporter of a variety of environmental organizations including the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation. Above all, Phipps was a devoted father, son, brother, uncle, and friend. He is survived by his three children, James, Brian, and Samantha of Clarendon Hills, IL, his parents Meredith and Philip Moriarty of Hinsdale, IL, his brother Brooks (Genny) Moriarty of Exeter, NH, and his sister Katie (Pete) Whittier of Charlottesville, VA. A service was held January 25th in New Haven, CT. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Camp Timanous, 7 Lady Slipper Lane, Brunswick, ME 04011.
