Richard 'Dick' L. Hunter
Richard 'Dick' L. Hunter, age 94, of New Haven, passed away on March 17, 2013. Born in Coalport, Pennsylvania on July 21, 1918, he was a son of the late William & Kathryn Peacock Hunter. Dick was predeceased by his wife, Anne Poreda Hunter; his daughter Patricia Hunter-Kitzes; his sisters, Gladys Compton & Virginia Malanson and his brothers, Lester & George Hunter. He is survived by several nieces and nephews. Dick was a US Army Veteran of WWII and a recipient of a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star. He was employed many years and retired in 1980 from the US Steel Company, formerly in New Haven. Dick was a member of the Disabled American Veterans. He was an avid fisherman, he loved to watch the UConn Women's Basketball games, he enjoyed to play pinochle, his gardening and always was seen feeding birds. Dick's family would like to thank the staff of the Hamden Health Care Center and Dr. Mona Zain of the West Haven Veterans Medical Center for the care he received from them in his time of need. Friends may visit with his family at BEECHER & BENNETT FUNERAL HOME, 2300 Whitney Ave, Hamden on Friday, March 22nd from 9:30 to 10:30 am. His funeral service will begin at 10:30 am in the funeral home, followed by his interment with Military Honors in All Saint's Cemetery, North Haven. In lieu of flowers contributions in his memory may be made to a charity of one's choice.
Uncle Dick, Eric and I had some time to spend with you on our way back home from Germany. It was amazing to see and meet you and Anne. You looked just like my dad George, just a whole lot taller.
