MERIDEN - The life of Robert A. Minkwitz ended on May 10, 2004 after a long courageous battle with cancer with his daughter, Debbie at his side. Born in Meriden on May 16, l938, he was the son of the late Arthur and Bernice (White) Minkwitz. Until retirement, Mr. Minkwitz was employed by First National Stores and Steakland Inc. as a meat cutter and salesman. He was a member of the American Legion Post 45 band and won numerous awards for his expertise playing the glockenspiel. He was always ready for a card game and especially enjoyed watching football. His keen sense of humor and sincere love of people will not be forgotten. Survivors include his daughter, Deborah Marchetti and her husband, Kenneth and their children, Ryan and Andrew of Wallingford; his son, Robert Minkwitz and his wife, Karen and their children, Daniel and Kylie of Virginia Beach; his daughter, Denise Zlozower and her son, Zak of California; and his son, Michael Minkwitz of Meriden. Additional survivors include his three sisters: Judith Fordiani and her husband, Richard of Hawaii, Susan Anderson of Saybrook and Betsy Hendrickson and her husband, Carl of Wallingford. He will be especially missed by his longtime friend, Mitzi Zerbe and his many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 15, at 10:30 a.m. at the Beecher and Bennett Flatow Funeral Home, 48 Cook Ave., Meriden. The Rev. Irvin Gagnon will officiate. Burial will be in Walnut Grove Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. prior to the service.
