Virginia Grace Connelly, 81, wife of the late John “Jack” Connelly, passed away on March 5, 2023 at MidState Medical Center after a short illness. She was born in New Haven on June 2, 1941 to the late Benjamin and Grace Gorski Pogonelski. Hamden has been home to Ginny since her family moved to town when she was in junior high, having graduated from Hamden High class of ’59. For the next 40 plus years she worked at a local bank, working her way up to manager. Over the years as the bank changed names, Ginny was a constant with the customers. After retiring from the bank, she worked in the Bursars office at Southern Conn. State University for another 15 years before retiring. Ginny had a green thumb and appreciated the beauty her gardens could hold. Her family remembers many Christmas parties at the New Haven Country Club where she was a member. Ginny was a loving individual who cared for her family and cherished her grandchildren.
She will be remembered by her sons and daughters-in-law, Martin “MJ” and Debra Millea of North Haven, Scott and Janice Millea of Hamden, and Christopher and Jennifer Millea of Cheshire; her grandchildren, Matthew, Daniel, Michael, Ryan, Dylan, Kevin, and Julianne; her brother-in-law, Alfred “Butch” Carniani of Wallingford and nephew, Billy Carniani. Predeceased by her sister, Beatrice “Cookie” Carniani and her long-time companion, Ralph Mongillo.
Friends are invited to visit with Ginny’s family on Thursday, March 9th from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at BEECHER & BENNETT FUNERAL HOME, 2300 Whitney Ave., Hamden. Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday morning at 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul VI Parish-St. Rita’s Church, 1620 Whitney Ave., Hamden, followed by her burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
