Obituary

Walter Russell Beecher of 35 Hamden Hills Drive, formerly of James Street, Hamden passed away on November 12, 2011 at the Connecticut Hospice in Branford. He was born February 11, 1915 in Hamden, son of the late Edward and Lula Hayles Beecher. He was the husband of Marjorie Jobes Beecher. Walter graduated in 1932 from New Haven High School. He served in the US Army during WWII. He was a State Highway Inspector until his retirement. He served on the board for the Central Burying Ground in Hamden and was a life long member of Grace & St. Peter's Episcopal Church. Walter enjoyed gardening, travel, and golf. Besides his wife, he is survived by his brother, Milton Beecher of Hopkinton MA and his brother-in-law William Bossoli of Hamden. He also leaves several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents and his sisters, Myrtle Bossoli and Viola Polsby and his brothers Lawrence and Raymond Beecher. A graveside service with military honors will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 16th at Central Burying Ground (Centerville Cemetery), Washington Avenue, Hamden. Memorial Contributions may be made to Grace & St. Peter's Episcopal Church, P.O. Box 185065, Hamden, CT 06518 or to a Charity of One's Choice. Arrangements are in care of BEECHER & BENNETT, 2300 WHITNEY AVE., HAMDEN.
