Henry M. “Happy” Gilmore, 69, of Hamden, passed away at his home on May 4, 2022. Born in New Haven on April 29, 1953, he was the son of the late Henry F. & Barbara (Wehner) Gilmore. Henry is survived by his wife Lizz (Ehly) Gilmore; his sister Patricia Burke Gilmore of No. Haven; and his nephew Gary Burke of Colorado. Henry retired from the Town of Hamden Department of Public Works in 2017. He was a man that was always doing something. For most of his life he resided in Hamden. He repaired, transported, bought and sold cars after his retirement. He was a member of the Conn. Classic Chevy Club and was an avid Nascar fan. Happy could always be counted on to be Santa Clause in his Hamden community for many organizations during the holiday season.
Friends may visit with his family on Saturday, May 7th from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. at Beecher & Bennett Funeral Home, 2300 Whitney Ave., Hamden. His Prayer Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery.

My sincerest condolences to Lizz and the Gillmore family for your loss. I will always remember Henry ‘s many visits to my office with his pets…and the many pleasurable conversations we had. Henry was the type of person that when you met him for the first time it felt as you knew him for ever. May he rest in peace.

6 months later, ( November 12th) In Apopka Florida, Laddie passed away.
My sincere condolences to Liz, Patty and Gary. I’ve known Henry since I was 12 years old, he was a great older and protective brother to Patty and a wonderful husband to Liz. I am so sorry to know that he is gone, kind hearted people are irreplaceable. Prayers and Love to Liz and Patty.

My sincere condolences to the Gilmore family. I met Henry nearly 50 years ago when walking the beat in Highwood. I was a rookie police officer and Henry would like to talk to me and I to him. Over the years I saw him and would enjoy talking to him. I haven’t seen him in years since I retired. He was a fine person. May he Rest In Peace.
