James P. Grahn, Sr, 63, of Hamden, passed away at St. Raphael's Hospital on November 10, 2011. Born on October 23, 1948 to the late Nils and Ruth Lussier Grahn. Jim is survived by his loving wife of 34 years, Karen Buenger Grahn; daughters, Barbara Wickwire and her husband Scott of East Haven and Tammy Grahn of Hamden; son, James P. Grahn, Jr. of Hamden; sisters, Kathleen Buzbee of Hamden, Sandra Berton of Melbourne, FL; brothers, Robert Grahn and his wife Cathy of East Hartland, John Grahn and his wife Julie of Viero, FL. He is also survived by his beloved mother-in-law, Adeline Buenger of Hamden. He was predeceased by a brother, Roger Grahn. Jim grew up in Simsbury then moved to Florida where he graduated high school before enlisting in the Navy. While proudly serving his country, Jim did two tours of duty in Vietnam on the USS Dealey earning the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, and Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal. After moving back to Connecticut, where he met his wife, they raised their family in Hamden. He worked for Fiserv Inc. as a Systems Analyst and three years ago started his own company, JnJ Yardworks, so he could do what he loved most. Jim loved the outdoors and always found enjoyment out of gardening, yard work and going to Vermont with his family. He was a bowler and a member of New Haven County USBC. Besides his adoring family, Jim leaves his beloved canine friend, Zoey. Friends may visit with his family on Sunday, November 13th from 4 to 7 p.m. at BEECHER & BENNETT, 2300 Whitney Ave., Hamden. A Funeral Service with Military Honors, will be held at Christ Lutheran Church, 600 Shepard Ave., on Monday, November 14th at 2:00. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Jim's memory may be sent to the Scholarship Fund for James P. Grahn, Jr., C/O Christ Lutheran Church, 600 Shepard Ave, Hamden, 06514.

  6. I was very sad to learn of Jim’s passing. I traveled with Jim for various business trips to convert clients to Fiserv. He was always fun, easy to get along with, and good at his job. You have my sympathy.

  9. So sorry to here of Jim’s passing. My heart felt condolences go out to his family. I worked with Jim remotely from Seattle over a good number of years and met with him several times in Brookfield. He was enjoyable to work with, always positive and knew his stuff.

  11. Jimmy was a boyhood friend of mine in Simsbury. Paul Luscomb and I were his friends and were about the same age. I have fond memories of our adventures together as kids playing in the woods.
