James H. Allen, Sr.

James H. Allen, Sr., “Bird,” 87, of Bloomfield, formerly a life-long resident of Meriden, passed away on April 5, 2026, with his twins Ashley and Lindsay by his side. He was born on February 4, 1939, a son of the late William and Helen Hugo Allen. He retired from Boehle’s Express after 28 and a half years of service as a truck driver, where he achieved several safe driving awards. He had been an avid golfer since his days at Meriden High School, and was a chauffeur for Alice Cooper in the 1970s. In his free time, he enjoyed writing and talking on the phone with his friends and family. He is survived by 5 daughters and 2 sons, Ashley E. Allen, Lindsay C. Allen, James H. Allen, Jr., William J. Allen, Betsy L. Simmons, Suzette Stewart, and Polly Duprez; and grandchildren, Shontai, Michael, and Londyn Cross, Ayden Sanchez, Diana Allen, Christopher, Amanda, and Nicholas Allen, David Simmons, and Rachael and Allison Duprez. He was predeceased by his sister, Patricia Geer. James will be missed and remembered for his big heart, strength, resilience, and strong-willed nature.

A funeral service celebrating James’s life will be held on Thursday, April 9, 2026, at 8:00 p.m. in Beecher & Bennett-Flatow Funeral Home, 48 Cook Ave., Meriden, CT 06451.
