Mary E. Antoch of Hamden, CT passed away on June 25, 2025 at the age of 95.
Mary Elizabeth Fitzgerald was born on November 4, 1929 in Hartford, CT to William Fitzgerald and Katherine (Coughlin) Fitzgerald. She was the second of four children. Mary lived in Connecticut almost her entire life, in the towns of Hartford, Pawcatuck, Norwich, New Haven, Cheshire and Hamden.
Mary was a bookkeeper for many years and then became a homemaker for most of her life. Her favorite place on earth was Misquamicut Beach in Westerly, Rhode Island. It is where she met her husband Anthony Joseph Antoch in 1954. They would meet and marry that same summer and go on to have four children together.
Mary and her family would vacation at Misquamicut annually for the beauty of the beach and because there were so many extended family members nearby as well.
Mary is predeceased by her loving husband Anthony (1929-1983); her brother William; her brother James; brother-in-law Oscar; and sister-in-law Marian. She is survived by her sister Dorothy Pierson, sister-in-law Delores Fitzgerald, four children, Michael, Anthony (Tony), Gina, and Mark; daughter-in-law Michele; and three grandchildren, Michael, Andrew and Ryan.
Mary was respected and loved by so many as a truly great person who was enormously generous and loving, with positive energy and never-ending compassion for those she loved. Thought of as a woman who wanted to create special moments and memories for everyone around her, she made and hosted so many great holiday gatherings over the years, including coordinating Fitzgerald family reunions (14 in all).
Mary was known for her great cooking, quick wit, creative mind and artistic hand, as well as her love for her beloved Red Sox. She always insisted on making people feel good. She made a difference in so many people’s lives and will be missed deeply.
