Thew (Terry) Wright, III, 78, of Northampton, MA, passed away the night of July 11, 2025. Terry was born in New Haven, CT, on March 25, 1947, to Betsy & Thew Wright. He grew up with his two sisters in the woods of Mt. Carmel, CT. He graduated from the Choate School in Wallingford and attended Marietta College. After interrupting his studies for a four-year tour of duty in the Air Force, he completed his education at Wright State University.
While living in Ohio, he developed training programs for Ponderosa Steak House and Cooper Tire. He went on to live many years in New Mexico and Madison, Wisconsin, working in training and customer service, where he embraced the transition to online services while receiving commendations for his accurate and personal assistance to his customers.
After retirement, Terry moved to the Rockridge Retirement Community in Northampton to be close to family in Massachusetts and Connecticut. Living for many years with end-stage renal disease, Terry received dialysis three days a week year-round. Terry loved Rockridge and the people who live and work there. He always appreciated his excellent accommodations, the food, and the support he received, including their support of his rigorous dialysis regimen.
Those who knew Terry know he loved music. From his recognition of Mozart’s Jupiter Symphony at age 3, to his many years playing folk, country, and jazz guitar wherever he was living. In his last years, he enjoyed singing with the local jazz choral group Valley Jazz Voices. Terry was enthusiastic in all his pursuits. He was a long-time student of Christian Science and never stopped studying and gaining comfort from his learnings. Terry was proud to have celebrated 39 years of sobriety in May of this year and was an active member of the Alcoholics Anonymous community. When physically attending meetings was difficult, he learned to attend and lead meetings online. While Terry was very engaged in learning and following current events, he was most excited about the doings of friends and family, especially his kids and nieces and nephews, of whom he was very proud.
Terry is survived by his stepson, Max Baymiller (Tori Daniels), and foster daughter Shayna Bloom and granddaughter Kattaleya. He also leaves his sister Sandy Wright (Mike Soref) and his niece Wendy Soref (Ben Weiss), great-niece Nell, and great-nephew Max; his nephew Jack Soref (Allison Curseen) and great-niece Deselí; brother Clinton Wright (Jean) and nephews Bruce, Henry, and Oscar. He is also survived by his nephew Christopher Collins, nieces Jessica Collins (Wade Leckie), Elizabeth Collins (Joe McManus), great-niece Kit and great-nephew Charlie, and niece Christine Collins (Atticus Kelbley). He is predeceased by his sister, Wendy Collins, and brother-in-law Jim Collins.
