John M. Keaney, a dedicated husband, father, brother, uncle, and a proud member of the law enforcement community passed away on November 13, 2025 at the age of fifty.

John dedicated 27 years of his life to serving and protecting the public with honor, integrity, and courage as a Federal Agent in the Office of the Inspector General. His commitment to duty was unwavering, a quality that defined both his professional and personal life.

In September 2001, John selflessly answered the call for help at Ground Zero in the aftermath of the 9/11 attacks. He worked tirelessly to bring closure to countless families and support fellow first responders. This sacrifice was a testament to his character and will never be forgotten.

Beyond his law enforcement career and brave service, John will be remembered for his warmth, kind heart, enthusiasm for life, and his desire to help anyone in need. He was a true gentleman who took a genuine interest in others, making them feel valued, worthy, and important.

John devoted his life to his family, who were truly his whole world. He was a loving husband for his wife Ann Marie. As a father he was a constant source of support, wisdom, and unconditional love. John was fiercely proud of Connor, Jack, William, Bianca, and Marielena, always wanting the very best for them. He truly cherished all the time they spent together.

To his niece Hope, John was more than an uncle. He was a father figure and a source of unwavering love and care who showed what it meant to be generous and compassionate.

John was a man with strong faith. Throughout his life, he often turned to, and found hope and solace in, God’s love and mercy. We are confident and comforted that he has found eternal rest and perpetual light will shine upon him always.

John, you will be deeply missed; your spirit will live forever in our hearts. We love you so much.

John is survived by his wife Ann Marie, his children Connor, Jack, William, Bianca, and Marielena. He is also survived by his niece Hope Garrett and her husband Benjamin; his sister Stephanie Keaney and her partner Brian Rochette; his brother James Keaney and his wife Jennifer, along with many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased in death by his parents, James and Kathryn Keaney, and his mother-in-law Bianca Devivo.

  1. My deepest condolences to John’s family. If there was a Mount Rushmore of HUD OIG agents, John was on it. A true professional who was dedicated to his career and serving as a role model. Rest in peace my friend.

  2. JK, you were a light in what can be a dark world. I remember when you started as an intern at the office and was so happy for you when you became an agent. Over the years our friendship only became stronger until you became one of my closest friends. I will miss you and our talks about sports, our kids and life in general. Rest in peace brother, you will forever be on my mind and in my heart.

  3. John was a trusted colleague and always represented the best of us at HUD OIG. I i have since retired but remember many mornings talking about our work but mostly our families. My deepest condolences to his family that he loved so much, and his colleagues who will miss his steady hand and friendship. Rest in peace Big John.

  4. Very sorry for your loss. John and I started our careers a few months apart back in 1999 in Boston. Shortly after we moved to separate offices with the agency but we always shared the same passion to protect and serve. I recall him being a very smart and thoughtful person with his fellow coworkers and a compassionate investigator that was thorough and fair with his Subjects. May he rest in peace.

  5. My condolences and thoughts and prayers are with the family. I worked with John in my role as a HQ manager at HUD OIG. I pray for your peace and comfort.

  6. John was a beautiful family man and a beautiful soul. May he rest in the peace and love of Our Lord and Blessed Mother. Prayer is the one healing grace none of us can live without. You are all in my heartfelt prayers. With deepest sympathy and love,
    Joanne Avoletta
