Alex (Santo) Possidente, 92, of Hamden, CT, died on January 9, 2018. Born in New Haven, CT on November 1, 1925; son of the late Carlo and Giuditta (Mancini) Possidente, who emigrated from San Carlo, Italy. Alex grew up with ten siblings in New Haven. He later married Gloria Angelo, and raised two children in Hamden. He adored his five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Alex graduated from Commercial High School in 1943. He was granted an Honorable Discharge from the United States Army during World War II. Afterwards he earned an Associate Degree from the University of New Haven in Electrical Engineering, and he was awarded an honorary B.S. Degree from the University of New Haven in 2013. Alex spent his entire professional career as an Electrical Engineer at Whitney Blake Company in Hamden. His loyalty to Whitney Blake continued even after they changed their location to Vermont; where he diligently commuted weekly from Hamden, leaving before dawn on a Monday morning and returning by the end of the week to be with his family for the weekend. He was most proud of two accomplishments in his career: his involvement in the designing of the fiber optic cable, and his work on the designing of the reloading midair refueling cable for US Air Force jets. He was also an avid gardener, and loved spending summers with his extended family at the Double Beach Club and Owenego Beach Club in Branford. Alex is survived by his devoted wife and love of his life for 68 years, Gloria (Angelo) Possidente; children, Carol Marlowe (Joseph) of Cherry Hill, NJ, and Dr. Carl Possidente (Lorna) of Jericho Center, VT; and by his adoring grandchildren, all of whom he was very proud; Dr. Lauren Marlowe (Michael Bulboff), Justin Marlowe (Lindsey Sullivan), Bret Marlowe (Katie Logan), Adam Possidente, esq. (Barbara), Alex Possidente (Amy), and great-grandchildren; Reed, Anna, Nora, Luke, and Riley. He is also survived by his sisters; Jane Malinconico of Orange, and Lucille Lamberti of North Haven. He was predeceased by his brothers; Marino, John, William, and Bernard, and sisters; Elvira Votto, Catherine DeLucia, Mary D’Angelo, and Carmel Marciano.
