Anna O. Shemet, 88, lifelong resident of Meriden, passed away on April 9, 2017 after a short illness. Born in Meriden on May 9, 1928 to the late Roman and Stella Staszczak Shemet. Anna worked for many years at New Departure with her sisters and retired from the GM Co. She had a great singing voice and loved to sing any opportunity she had. Feeding the birds and taking photos were some of her favorite pastimes. She would tell us stories of our grandparents and parents growing up. Anna was the only one of her sisters to learn to drive and buy a car. Auntie Annie was a character and was always quick with a quip. While Anna had her own way of showing it, she loved her family and friends. Besides her parents she was predeceased by her siblings, Sophie Lesiak, Elsie 'Alexandra' Shanahan, Helen O'Brien, and John Shemet. She is survived by her nephew, Thomas Shanahan and her brothers' daughters, Geraldine and Barbara and many great nieces and nephews. Friends may visit with her family on Thursday, April 13th from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. with a Memorial Service at 6:30 p.m. at BEECHER & BENNETT-FLATOW FUNERAL HOME, 48 Cook Ave., Meriden, CT. Burial will be private. Contributions in Anna's memory may be sent to the Meriden Humane Society, 311 Murdock Ave, Meriden, CT 06450.

  1. Annie was such an amazing woman who cared for others deeply. Since I was a child, I enjoyed her outspoken nature and incredible sense of humor! I was blessed to know her and call her friend. I will miss her but she will never be forgotten. I am so sorry for your loss.
