Arthur H. Verneris, age 87, of Hamden & Florida, passed away on July 9, 2012 at his home. Arthur was predeceased by his wife Irene Bartlewski Verneris this past year. Born in New Haven on July 6, 1925 he was a son of the late Harold & Edith Borghi Verneris. Arthur is survived by his daughters, Karen Carrasco & her husband Roberto of Hamden and Jeanne Verneris of North Haven; his son William Verneris & his wife Elizabeth of Hamden; grandchildren Stefanie, Katherine & Andy Varga, Nicole & Simonne Carrasco and Mary Verneris and his sister in-law Diane Verneris of Wallingford. He was predeceased by his brothers, Donald & Richard 'Dick' Verneris. Arthur was the founder and operator along with his wife Irene for over 50 years of Rainbow Cleaners at 2600 Whitney Ave, in Hamden. He was a US Army Veteran of WWII, serving in Italy, Southern France & Rhineland Africa and a recipient of the Bronze Star Medal for his distinguished service. Arthur was a devoted man, that to his business and his family. He much enjoyed the opera, bowling, golfing and his time spent with his family at Lauderdale by the Sea in Florida. Friends may visit with his family at BEECHER & BENNETT FUNERAL HOME, 2300 Whitney Ave., Hamden on Wednesday morning, July 11th, from 8:00 AM to 11:00 AM and are invited to attend his Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 AM in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, Hamden. Interment with full Military Honors will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery. Contributions in his memory may be made to the Alzheimers Association, 2911 Dixwell Ave., Suite 104, Hamden, CT 06516.

Arthur was a true gentleman from the times of my working with my uncle on rugs in the building across the street when I was young to our transactions in my store… always fair, pleasant and charismatic. Please find solace in fond memories of the past to ease any grief and remorse that you may feel.

  9. I remember seeing Art smile at me upon leaving the church only months ago at Irene’s funeral service. It felt like the sun had come out on a sad and gloomy day. My guess is that this is something he did often… made other people happy. It seems right that he be with his beloved wife now.
