Barbara Fitch Prokop
Barbara Fitch Prokop, age 94, passed away on June 12, 2013 at her residence in Elim Park in Cheshire. Daughter of Bernard and Mabel Roberts Fitch, Barbara was born on November 19, 1918 in Mount Carmel in Hamden. She was a longtime resident of Spring Glen in Hamden and a summer resident of Kelsey Island in Branford. Barbara was predeceased by her husband Leslie James Prokop in 2011. She is survived by her children Ann Prokop, Margaret Fiedler, Dorothy Prokop, Leticia Garcia Guerra, Stephen Prokop and Robert Prokop; many loving grandchildren and great grandchildren. Besides her parents and husband she was predeceased by her son Leslie James Prokop, Jr. and siblings Adeline Fitch, Frances Richardson, Sister Bernard Joseph, Marion Botarelli, Robert Fitch. Barbara is also survived by her sisters Annette Donovan and Rosemary Horrigan; many nieces and nephews, extended family and friends. A 1939 graduate of Albertus Magnus College, Barbara taught French at Hamden High School and English at Eli Whitney Technical High School. A member of the Connecticut State Employees Association, she was a certified reading specialist with a master's degree from Southern Connecticut State University. Relatives and friends are invited to attend her Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday, June 19th at 11:00am in St. Thomas Becket Church, 435 North Brooksvale Rd, Cheshire and may visit with the family immediately after Mass. Burial will be held privately. Contributions in Barbara's memory may be made to Albertus Magnus College, 700 Prospect Street, New Haven, CT 06511. Arrangements are in care of BEECHER & BENNETT FUNERAL HOME, 2300 Whitney Ave, Hamden.
