Benjamin A. Jodice, 84, husband of Alyce (Zeishner) Jodice for 60 years, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, October 22, 2009. He died from heart and kidney failure, having spent the final days of his life surrounded by family and loving caregivers. He was born August 15, 1925 in Boston, Massachusetts, a son of the late Benjamin R. and Helen (Campbell) Jodice. A veteran of WWII, he served in the U.S. Army as a medic on a hospital ship, the Chateau Thierry. Ben was founder and sole owner of a commercial and residential painting business in Massachusetts until retiring to Florida in 1990. His faith was essential to his life. He was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church in Lakeland, FL, and Grace Chapel in Lexington, MA, where he lived for 37 years. For many years Ben was a volunteer for Habitat for Humanity, both in MA and FL. In addition to his wife Alyce, he is survived by his son, David (Min Kim) of Florida and Virginia, his daughter Karen (Helen Falcone) of Hamden and Southbury, his grandson, Joshua Peiffer, and his brother Leonard (Sandra) of Massachusetts. He also leaves many nieces and nephews, grand nieces and nephews and their growing families. He was predeceased by his brothers Ralph (Mary) and Vincent (Gloria) and his sister Lorraine Scanlon (Jack). A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, December 5, 2009 at the North Haven Congregational Church, UCC 28 Church St, North Haven, CT at 11:30 am with the Rev. Scott Morrow officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations in Benjamin's memory may be made to Habitat for Humanity, Attn: Gifts from the Heart, 121 Habitat Street, Americus, GA 31709-3498. The family wishes to express its deepest gratitude and appreciation to the caring staff of Sol Amor Hospice. The Beecher and Bennett Funeral Home, 2300 Whitney Ave., Hamden is in charge of the arrangements.
