MERIDEN - Bertha E. Smith, 96, formerly of 80 Hanover St., died Monday, Feb. 4, 2008, at Westfield Care and Rehab Center. She was the wife of the late Henry Charles Smith. Born in Meriden on Sept. 4, 1911, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Pauline Brayfield Wiedemeyer. She was a lifetime resident of Meriden and a lifetime member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, where she was a member of the Lutheran Church Women and the Friendship Group. She had been employed by the Meriden-Wallingford Society for the Handicapped. She is survived by two daughters, Rosalyn Barefoot of Meriden and Beth Stefanik of Vernon; two sons, James Magnolia and Robert Magnolia, both of Meriden; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by three sisters and one brother. The funeral will be held Wednesday, Feb. 6, at 10:30 a.m. at the Beecher & Bennett - Flatow Funeral Home, 48 Cook Ave., Meriden. The Rev. Perry L. Beaver will officiate. Burial will follow in Walnut Grove Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. prior to the service. If desired, contributions in Mrs. Smith's memory may be made to the Memorial Fund, Immanuel Lutheran Church, 164 Hanover St., Meriden, CT 06451.
