Carmella C. Viega, 85, beloved wife of the late John V. Viega Sr. passed away peacefully Nov. 24, 2009 surrounded by her family. She was born in Waterbury, daughter of the late Liberato 'Joe' Quaranda and Michela 'Mary' Montesano Quaranda and had resided in Woodbury and Boyton Beach, Florida for the past 18 years. Carmella was employed as an Executive Assistant at the Waterbury Press Metal, Scovill Manufacturing, and later at the Stanley Works of New Britain where she retired. She had served as President of the Slocum Elementary School PTA in Waterbury; was a volunteer at Bradley Memorial Hospital in Southington where she had lived after her retirement; and served as a volunteer of the Landscaping Committee of her condo association. Carmella was a member of St. Teresa of Avila Church in Woodbury, active at the Woodbury Senior Center and was an enthusiastic painter. She was a modest and elegant woman who loved life. She is survived by her loving children, Darlene Beaudoin and her life partner Al Bisaillon of Wolcott; John Viega, Jr. and his wife Gina of Ellington;Timothy Viega and his wife Ksenia, of Woodbury with whom she had resided; and Carmelita Rifkin and her husband Lawrence, of Prospect. Carmella is also survived by her sisters, Mary Petruzzi of Bethlehem and Anna DiVirgilio of Naugatuck; nine loving grandchildren and four great grandchildren. She was predeceased by sisters, Rose Uriano, Esther Levegnale and a brother Anthony Quaranda, Sr. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Saturday Nov. 28, at 10 am in the St. Teresa of Avila Church, 146 Main St. South, Woodbury. Entombment will follow at the Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum. There will be no calling hours. Arrangements in care of Beecher & Bennett-Flatow Funeral Home, 48 Cook Ave. Meriden.
