Carol Elsie Smith, 86, wife of the late Lawrence G. Smith, passed away December 7, 2024 after a brief illness. She was born in New Haven, a daughter of the late Wesley and Elsie Cassidy O’Brien, and had resided in North Haven for many years before moving to Wallingford. Carol was a realtor and worked with various agencies, including Coldwell Banker Realty, and most recently worked in customer service with AAA Motor Club in Hamden before her retirement. She enjoyed New York City, jazz music, reading, and spending time with her family and beloved pets.

Mother of Jennifer Gargano (Gary) and Jane Pieper. Sister of Eileen Brown, Andrea Connolly, and Wesley O’Brien Jr., all of North Haven. Grandmother of Andrew Gargano (Kylie), Olivia Gargano, Lucas Gargano, Charles Pieper, Maxwell Pieper, and Harry Pieper. Great-grandmother of Leo and Jack Gargano.

Friends are invited to visit with her family on Thursday, December 12 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Beecher & Bennett, 2300 Whitney Ave., Hamden. Contributions in her memory may be sent to BranfordCompassionClub.org.

  4. Wishing you comfort as you celebrate Carol’s life.Losing a mother or grandmother is never easy ,no matter how long they are granted life.
    I remember those O’Brien girls , who growing up, seemed so perfect to a little girl. I was at her wedding, saw the Smith girls grow into lovely adults, mothers and grandmothers albeit mainly thru family photos.
    I know she will be missed, especially this time of year. May God bless you all!
