Meriden- Catalina Serrano Otero, 99, was called to her heavenly home on Wednesday, March 2, 2016 after a valiant battle with various health issues. She was born February 28, 1917 in her hometown of Vega Alta, Puerto Rico. Catalina was the daughter of the late Juan Otero and Clotilde Rivera. Her devotion to her family and her firm belief in God allowed her to persevere in her life struggles and illnesses; ultimately allowing her to gain inner peace and acceptance of our heavenly Father's wishes. Catalina was blessed with a large and loving family. She married her best friend and soul mate, Paulino Serrano and together they raised their 15 children. Catalina was a loyal wife, a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was an excellent cook and her home was always open to family, seminarians and local priests for delicious dinners. She was a devout catholic; practicing her faith and praying the rosary every day. Catalina in survived by ther daughters, Maria del Carmen Serrano, Marina Oquendo, Milagro Cardona, Teresa Martinez, Justa Rosado, Natividad Serrano, Maria D. Concepcion, Maria Virgen Mendez, Maria Serrano-Palazzo and sons; Pablo A. Serrano, Jose A. Serrano, Felipe Serrano and Juan Luis Serrano. She also leaves 44 beloved grandchildren and over 50 great-grandchildren She was predeceased by her one true love of nearly 60 years, her husband Paulino Serrano and her sons, Guillermo Rafael Serrano and Angel Francisco Serrano. Our beloved Angel will be truly missed. Catalina's funeral service will be held on Friday, March 4, 2016 at 9:30am at Beecher & Bennett-Flatow Funeral Home, 48 Cook Ave., Meriden followed by a mass of Christian burial at 11am at St. Rose of Lima Church, 35 Center St., Meriden.
