Entered into eternal rest March 26, 2023, Catherine Kolesnik, 92, resided in North Haven at the time of her passing and was the daughter of the late Walter and Mary Semaniak Kolesnik. Catherine was born and raised in New Haven, moved to Hamden, and then to North Haven, where she lived with her sister, Lillian Buciak, whom she cared for until Lillian’s passing.
Catherine graduated from St. Basil’s Academy in Stamford and attended Southern Connecticut State College and Manhattanville College. She was employed as an Administrative Assistant for 40 years at Texaco/Chevron Corporation in White Plains, New York.
Catherine loved her church, St. Michael’s Ukrainian Catholic Church in New Haven, and was active there throughout her life. She was a past president, vice president and auditor of the Immaculate Conception Society and a Pyrohy Project worker there. She was also a member of the League of Ukrainian Catholics and a mentor for handicapped children in New York. She loved to swim and participated in synchronized swimming events earlier in life. She also enjoyed bowling and creating PowerPoint Projects.
Catherine leaves behind her nephews, John W. Buciak of East Hampton and Mark S. Buciak of Avon, grandnieces Cara Catherine Capizzano (husband Ryan) and Ashley Buciak, and grandnephew Jonathan Buciak. She is also survived by her great-grandniece Lucy Rose Capizzano, who gave her much joy.
Calling hours will be Monday, April 3rd in Beecher & Bennett Funeral Home, 2300 Whitney Avenue, Hamden, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. with Panachyda Services at 7:00. Funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday, April 4th at 10:00 a.m. in St. Michael’s Ukrainian Catholic Church, 569 George Street, New Haven, with burial following at St. Lawrence Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, Catherine asked for donations to go to St. Michael’s Ukrainian Catholic Church.
