Chalmer Gorman Alexander, 86, of Hamden, CT, passed away with his family by his side on Oct. 19, 2016. He was born in Webbville, KY, on July 8, 1930, to the late Christine Marie and Paul Hamilton Alexander. The family later moved to Detroit, where he graduated from Wayne State University. After college, he faithfully served his country in the U.S. Army. After being discharged from the Army, Alexander lived and worked in Stockholm, Sweden, where he met and married his first wife, Birgit Bachner. The family, which now included their son, Michael, moved from Stockholm to Hamden in 1963. Alexander subsequently worked as an architect with the Hamden-based firm Roche-Dinkeloo and Associates for more than 30 years. In addition to his work as an architect, he was an accomplished photographer, painter and musician. His love, strength and generous spirit remain an inspiration to all who were blessed to know him. Alexander is predeceased by his first wife, Birgit. He is survived by his devoted wife of 12 years, Verta Larson Alexander, and his son Michael. There is no funeral service planned. A private interment will take place in Sweden at a later date. Donations in Chalmer's name may be made to Seasons Hospice & Palliative Care, www.seasons.org.
