CHARLES N. ''NEWT'' SCHENCK III New Haven-Charles N. ''Newt'' Schenck III, 79 a leading New Haven lawyer and community leader passed away February 14, 2002 at Yale New Haven Hospital after a long illness. He is survived by his wife Anne Finlay Schenck, five daughters, Sarah Crooks-Merrill of Portland, OR, Katherine Brett Schenck of Belmont, MA, Susan Schenck Izard of West Hartford, CT, Amey Schenck Bailey of Plymouth, NH and Carroll Schenck Haberstock of Canaan, ME, and eleven grandchildren. He was predeceased by a sister, Mrs. Mary Brett Castles, and a brother, Gordon L. Schenck. A Memorial Service will be held at the Church of the Redeemer, 185 Cold Spring St., New Haven, Tuesday, February 26, 2002 at 11:00 a.m. Arrangements in care of BEECHER & BENNETT, 2300 Whitney Ave., Hamden. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that gifts be made to Yale New Haven Hospital, 20 York St., New Haven, CT 06511, Long Wharf Theatre, 222 Sargent Dr., New Haven, CT 06511, The Arts Council of Greater New Haven, 70 Audobon St., New Haven, CT 06511, The Community Foundation for Greater New Haven for the benefit of the New Haven Green, 70 Audobon St., New Haven CT 06511.
