In New Haven, July 8, 2003, Charles Walter Surface, Sr., 81, of 104 Windsor Rd., Hamden, husband of the late Lucille Balaney Surface, father of Catherine Surface of Hamden, Elizabeth Surface of Bethany, Margaret Mihalakos of Hamden, Ann McMannus of Woodbridge, Joyce Surface of New Haven, Charles Surface, Jr. of Hamden, George Surface of Fresno, CA, James Surface of Glastonbury, brother of Emma Cattell of Cheshire and the late Mary Gaudio and William Surface. Also survived by eight grandchildren. Charles was born in New Haven, Dec. 2, 1921 a son of the late George A. and Florence Oakley Surface. During WW II he served in Germany in the 7th Armor Division Tank Crew. He was a prominent banker in the New Haven area having worked the former Tradesman National, Hamden National and CT Bank and Trust banks. Funeral service Saturday, July 12, 2003 at 10 a.m. at BEECHER & BENNETT, 2300 Whitney Ave., Hamden. Interment in Hamden Plains Cemetery. Friends may call Friday 5 - 8 p.m.
