Charlotte Alberta Martindale

charlotte martindale
Charlotte Alberta Martindale, 84, of Hamden, passed away with family by her side on August 17, 2013 at Saint Francis Hospital. Born in New Haven on August 23, 1928 to the late Arthur and Alice McCormick Carignan. Charlotte was predeceased, just a year ago, by her husband Robert Martindale. She is survived by her two daughters and their husbands, Eileen & Ed Griswold of Killingworth, and Sharon & Brian Jelinek of South Carolina and two sons, David Martindale & his wife Lorrie of Hamden and Robert Martindale of New Haven; seven grandchildren, Alisha, Diana, David Jr. & Emily Martindale and David, William & Robert Kolodziej. Besides her husband, she is predeceased by her brother, Arthur Carignan. Charlotte grew up in New Haven where she graduated from Hillhouse High School before graduating from Grace New Haven as an LPN. She went on to work as a maternity nurse at Yale New Haven Hospital for 35 years before retiring. Hamden became home where she and Bob raised their family. She was a longtime parishioner at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church and loved the water. Dancing, ice skating, and listening to opera were some of her favorite past times. But spending time with her grandchildren was more important than anything else. Charlotte will be remembered as an amazing caregiver professionally and in her personal life. Friends may visit with her family on Friday, August, 23, 2013 from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at BEECHER & BENNETT, 2300 Whitney Ave., Hamden followed by her Memorial Service at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home. Burial will take place after the service in Centerville Cemetery. Donations in Charlotte's memory may be sent to M.A.R.C.
