Christine Giaquinto Rossi

Christine Giaquinto Rossi was born December 13th, 1920 on Pearl Street in New Haven Connecticut, Daughter of pianist Eugene Giaquinto, and Maria San Giovanni, both born in Italy. She attended St. Mary's Academy, and later earned a Bachelor's Degree in Romance Languages from Albertus Magnus College, followed by work towards a Master's Degree at Yale. She worked as a translator during World War II, followed by teaching in the Milford public schools. In 1949, she married William S. Rossi of New Haven, and in 1952 son Marc was born. In 1957, the family moved to Hamden, where she taught Italian at Sleeping Giant Junior High School for over 20 years, until her retirement . She is survived by her former husband William S. Rossi of New Haven-- a retired plumbing and heating contractor; son Marc Rossi of Boston MA-- a composer/ pianist, and Professor at the Berklee College of Music; cousin Paul Nakian of Stamford CT-- an attorney, and Laura Giaquinto, of New Haven. Visiting hours will be held at Beecher & Bennett Funeral Home, 2300 Whitney Ave., Hamden from 6-8 pm, Thursday January 29th, followed by a memorial service from 8-9 pm at the same location. Burial will be 11:00 am Friday January 30th, at St Lawrence Cemetery, West Haven, Connecticut. Tax-deductible contributions in her name can be made to The Essex Chamber Music Players (ECMP), Michael Finegold Music director, a non-profit organization that commissions and performs the music of Marc Rossi.
