Claire Hamrah Falk, widow of the late Sheldon Falk, died on Saturday, April 30, 2005 at her home in Cheshire, CT. Daughter of the late Abdullah and Rose Monseur Hamrah, she is survived by her sister, Mary Hamrah, of Tenafly, New Jersey; two brothers, George Hamrah of Southington, CT and Albert Hamrah of Rocky Hill, CT; four nieces, Suzanne Hamrah Weinstein of Marco Island, FL, Joyce Hamrah of Tenafly, NJ, Lilli Hamrah Corhan of Englewood, NJ and Sharon Hamrah of Vernon, CT; three nephews, Charles Hamrah Jr. of Meriden, CT, Michael Hamrah of Woodbury, CT and Scott Hamrah of Brooklyn, NY; and several grand nieces and nephews. Mrs. Falk was born in Naugatuck and moved with her family to Meriden in 1937. It was there, on Colony Street, that she helped establish Hamrah's, specializing in fine linens and domestics, with her family. The store was a landmark for over fifty years, after which time Claire changed the direction of the business, concentrating on fine oriental rugs and antiques, and moving it to Woodbury, CT. There she established a thriving business with her unique selections, catering to wealthy New Yorkers with vacation homes in the Litchfield Valley. Her knowledge, personal service and attention to detail won her praise and loyalty from her customers. When she closed her doors in April of 2004 due to failing health, the whole community was saddened. ''She was an important and vital member of our community and will be sorely missed.''
