Clarice ('Chris') Chase, 85, passed away peacefully at the Whitney Center in Hamden, CT on Feb 17. She was born Sept. 7, 1934 in Laconia, New Hampshire to William and Bernice Sanborn. She graduated from Plymouth High School and The University of New Hampshire. She married Carter B. Chase and worked as a secretary while he completed law school. The couple settled in DeWitt, NY where Clarice became a loving, supportive and devoted wife and mother. For several years, she volunteered at the gift shop at Upstate Medical Center. She loved working with her hands and enjoyed sewing, knitting, candle making, cake decorating and helping to maintain the house by painting, hanging wallpaper and rescreening the porch. She tirelessly helped with homework, was frequently seen at her daughter's high school archery meets, and created a welcoming environment at home for visiting neighbors, friends and family. She moved to Salt Lake City when her husband's work as a corporate attorney took him to Utah. There, she discovered Sudoku puzzles, avidly followed the Utah Jazz, and lovingly maintained their home. After nursing her husband of 52 years through terminal cancer, she moved to Whitney Center to be closer to family. She is survived by her daughter, Lynne, a sister, Joanne (Chuck) Jette, a brother-in-law, Clark (Eleanor) Chase, a niece, Allison Jette, nephews, Nick (Cheryl) Jette and Greg and Carter (Brooke) Chase and grand-niece, Anara Chase. She is also predeceased by a sister, Avis Sanborn. Contributions in Clarice's memory may be made to Whitney Center Gift Fund, 200 Leeder Hill Dr., Hamden, CT. 06517 attn: Philanthropy Dept.
